At the beginning of his jurisprudence (fiqh) class today (11/07/1403), Ayatollah Alavi Borujerdi, referring to the martyrdom of the late Seyed Hassan Nasrallah, stated: “In recent days we have witnessed intense events. The martyrdom of the late Seyed Hassan Nasrallah and the events surrounding the resistance of Lebanon and the Shiites of Lebanon are, in all honesty, a tragedy. Lebanon and the Shiites of Lebanon have been subjected to an intense and unprecedented assault by Israel, and under the attacks of this regime, innocent people, including women and children, have been mercilessly killed. The fact that on the very first day of the attack on Lebanon nearly two thousand ordinary people were killed is a catastrophe and a cause for deep concern.
He further stated: “We will never forget the leadership role of the resistance and Seyed Hassan Nasrallah against ISIS. ISIS committed many atrocities in its attacks on Syria, Aleppo, Sayyidah Zaynab, and also in Iraq, but in those events it was this resistance and Seyed Hassan Nasrallah who stepped forward to defend the oppressed and stopped ISIS.”
He added that Lebanon has long been a cultural and intellectual center in the Arab world and that its actions have influenced many societies. He noted that it is one of the oldest Shiite regions, home to great scholars such as the families of Al-Sadr al-Din, Al-Sharaf al-Din, Allama al-Muhaqqiq al-Karaki, Shaykh Baha’i, and others, yet its Shiites have always been مظلوم (oppressed). Today, however, thanks to this resistance, Shiites have gained dignity and a stronger position.
He stated: “It remains a point of pride for Shiism that since the establishment of this usurping regime, major Shiite scholars and authorities such as Ayatollah Borujerdi, Ayatollah Hakim, Sayyid Muhsin al-Hakim, and others, as well as the Shiite community, have felt the pain caused by this regime and have stood against it. However, unfortunately, much of the burden that should have been borne by the wider Islamic world has only been carried by the Shiites of Lebanon, the resistance, and the people of Iran. Is no one else responsible? Some Arab countries did not even issue a simple condemnation regarding the martyrdom of Seyed Hassan Nasrallah. Why are these Arab societies silent in the face of the occupation of Arab lands? Why do they not move? Is it only Shiites who are responsible? ‘Whoever does not care about the affairs of Muslims is not a Muslim’—is this only applicable to them?”
He added, referring to Iran’s counter-response the previous night: “Our people took significant action last night, yet it is surprising that the burden of confronting this oppression and occupation is left solely on us. While some countries show great activity in attacking Yemen and the Houthis—who only sought to govern themselves—they show no such commitment against Israel. In this, there is neither true Islam nor Arab identity.”
He emphasized that the issue of Israel is not merely political but an issue of identity, stating that it is a regime built on the ideology of ethnic supremacy, with an apartheid structure and expansionist slogans such as “from the Nile to the Euphrates.”
In conclusion, he expressed hope that God would bring about the downfall of what he described as a source of corruption and instability in the region since its establishment.
