In remarks delivered on the eve of the holy month of Ramadan, Ayatollah Alavi Boroujerdi highlighted three important points and emphasized the significance of solidarity and respecting sacred values during this blessed month.
First, he addressed the difficult economic conditions faced by many people, stating that numerous families — especially this year, with Ramadan coinciding with Nowruz — are struggling to provide basic necessities and food supplies. He urged those who are financially able not to withhold assistance from others during these special circumstances facing the country, and encouraged everyone to help others even in small ways and bring joy to people’s hearts during this holy month.
He further emphasized that if people are unable to provide direct financial assistance, they should at least stand beside others with empathy and compassion. He noted that solidarity and sympathy carry great importance during this blessed month.
In his second point, he stressed the importance of fasting and preserving the sanctity of Ramadan. He stated that those who are unable to fast for any reason should still respect the holiness of the month and avoid eating publicly.
Ayatollah Alavi Boroujerdi emphasized that preserving the sanctity of Ramadan is highly important, and that everyone should strive to benefit from the spiritual virtues of this month in the best possible way.
In his third point, he referred to the coincidence of Nowruz with the days commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Ali. He stated that, alongside honoring these days of mourning, special attention should also be paid to preserving the dignity and respect of Imam Ali. Love for Imam Ali, he said, is sacred and deeply valued not only among Shia Muslims but among all people, even non-Muslims.
He added that although Nowruz and its traditions naturally hold great importance for people and are part of everyday life — such as cleaning homes and visiting relatives and friends — there is no problem with these practices as long as respect for Imam Ali is maintained throughout these activities.
He further stressed that during these days, even if people are traveling or unable to fast, they should refrain from openly displaying excessive celebration and should preserve the dignity and sanctity associated with Imam Ali.
In conclusion, Ayatollah Alavi Boroujerdi prayed for success and blessings for all believers during Ramadan and the beginning of the new year, expressing hope that this holy month would bring blessings, prosperity, health, and divine grace to everyone.
