At the beginning of his jurisprudence class today (11/07/1403), Ayatollah Alavi Borujerdi, referring to the martyrdom of the late Seyed Hassan Nasrallah, stated: “In recent days we have witnessed intense events. The martyrdom of the late Seyed Hassan Nasrallah and the events that have taken place regarding the resistance of Lebanon and the Shiites of Lebanon are, in all honesty, a great tragedy. Lebanon and its Shiite community have been subjected to an unprecedented assault by Israel, and under these attacks innocent people, including women and children, are being brutally killed. The fact that nearly two thousand civilians were killed on the first day of the attack is itself a major tragedy and a cause for deep concern.”
He added: “We will never forget the leadership and presence of the resistance and Seyed Hassan Nasrallah in confronting ISIS. ISIS committed numerous atrocities in Syria, Aleppo, Sayyida Zainab, and Iraq, but in those critical moments it was this resistance and Seyed Hassan Nasrallah who stepped forward, defended the oppressed, and stood against ISIS.”
He stated that Lebanon has long been a cultural and intellectual center in the Arab world and that its actions have had widespread influence across societies. He noted that Lebanon is one of the historical centers of Shiism, home to great scholars such as the families of Al Sadr al-Din and Al Sharaf al-Din, as well as figures like Al-Muhaqqiq al-Karaki, Shaykh Bahai, and others. However, Shiites in Lebanon have historically been oppressed, and today, through the blessing of resistance, they have gained dignity and standing.
He emphasized: “It is a lasting honor for Shiism that since the establishment of this usurping regime, major Shiite scholars and authorities such as Ayatollah Borujerdi, late Ayatollah Hakim, Seyed Mohsen Hakim, and other religious leaders, along with the Shiite community, have always felt pain and stood against this usurping regime. However, unfortunately, much of the burden that should have been carried by the broader Muslim world has been placed solely on Lebanese Shiites, the resistance, and the people of Iran. Is no one else responsible? Some Arab countries did not even issue a simple condemnation regarding the martyrdom of Seyed Hassan Nasrallah. Why are Arab societies silent in the face of occupation? Is only Shiism responsible for this cause?”
He referred to Iran’s retaliatory action the previous night, stating: “Our people took significant action last night, but it is surprising that we alone must bear the burden of confronting this injustice and occupation on behalf of all Muslims. Some of these countries have shown great zeal in attacking Yemen and the Yemeni Shiites who sought to determine their own fate, carrying out continuous attacks and killing innocent civilians. Yet when it comes to Israel, they show no sense of duty. In such cases, neither Islamic responsibility nor Arab identity seems to remain.”
He further stated that the issue of Israel is not merely a political matter but an issue of identity. He noted that Israel defeated Arab states in the Six-Day War and has occupied territories that remain under its control. However, in Lebanon, it was not the government or army but the Shiite resistance that prevented the south of Lebanon from falling into enemy hands and succeeded in liberating it.
In another part of his remarks, he clarified: “We are not anti-Jewish. Jewish communities live in Iran, and Iran is among the few Islamic countries where Jews still reside. Our issue is not with Judaism, but with the ideology and system of a regime based on ethnic superiority, with a Zionist identity and apartheid characteristics, which constantly violates Al-Aqsa Mosque and promotes the ideology of ‘from the Nile to the Euphrates.’ These are not trivial matters.”
He concluded by expressing hope that God Almighty would bring an end to what he described as a source of corruption and suffering since its establishment, and remove it from the region.
