Ayatollah Alavi Borujerdi, earlier today, during a meeting with a number of clerics, preachers, and orators of the country who had attended his office on the eve of the month of Muharram, referred to the recent attack by the Israeli regime and the martyrdom of a number of honorable Iranian citizens, describing this act as an open aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran and warning of its dangerous consequences.
In his remarks, he stated: “Today we are in a very difficult situation; an aggressor state has attacked the Islamic Republic of Iran—a state that, from the very beginning of its formation, has been built upon aggression, killing, usurpation, and displacement, and despite numerous United Nations resolutions, has continued its illegal settlement expansion in Palestinian territories for more than seventy years.”
Warning regional and global countries, Ayatollah Alavi Borujerdi added: “Although the Israeli regime carried out this attack under the pretext of the nuclear issue, this matter will not end with Iran. The nature of this regime is expansionist, and under the slogan ‘from the Nile to the Euphrates,’ it poses a threat to all countries in the region.”
Emphasizing the necessity of national unity in the current situation, he stated: “Within the country, there are criticisms and differences of opinion; however, now that Iran has been attacked by a criminal foreign regime, everyone must unanimously condemn this aggression.”
He also expressed concern over the expansion of state terrorism, saying: “Today we are faced with an unusual and worrying phenomenon. Terrorism, in any form, is condemnable, and state terrorism is even more so. These actions are not only contrary to human and religious principles but also in violation of the United Nations Charter and all international resolutions.”
Condemning threats against the leadership of the Islamic Republic of Iran by Israeli state terrorism, he said: “No government has the right to consider itself authorized to carry out assassinations or threats against the leaders of another UN member state. As we are witnessing today, there are threats against the leadership of the system and some of our national figures.”
He emphasized: “If this approach becomes normalized in the world, it will create a dangerous and unprecedented precedent in international relations that will not be limited to Iran; rather, other powerful countries may also seek the physical elimination of other nations’ leaders. This phenomenon is a threat to the entire world and must be firmly condemned.”
Referring to the importance of the role of people in the destiny of nations, he stated: “It is the people who determine the fate of their country. No foreign government has the right to impose its will on nations through coups or invasions. The experience of countries that have come to power through coups, such as Chile, has shown that such governments never achieve true freedom or democracy.”
In conclusion, praying for the martyrs of the homeland and seeking divine mercy for them, he said: “He asked God Almighty to assist our beloved country in these critical circumstances. We convey our words to the Commander of the Faithful, Imam Ali (peace be upon him), and to Imam al-Mahdi (may our souls be sacrificed for him). This land is the center of Shiism; since ancient times, Shia Muslims around the world have looked to this country with hope. Today this land is in danger and is in need of the special support and grace of the infallible Imams (peace be upon them). We hope that their blessings will include the people of Iran and that they will not be afflicted by further calamities and tragedies.”
